The Why
Allow the learner to model the way a scientist works •Connect Literacy and Science enhancing literacy skills •Are a formative assessment tool •Hold learners accountable for their learning •Support differentiated learning •Enhance inquiry-based learning •Guide instruction •Keep the learner organized •Allow the learner to express their ideas •Demonstrate growth and learning •Act as a thinking tool |
The How
•Scientists record the date and time •Scientists read the notebooks of other scientists •Scientist encourage investigation partners to read their notebooks •Scientists only write in their own notebooks •Scientists record ideas that they get from others, but they give credit |
Science is, in the simplest of terms, the exploration for understanding.
We use observations, to examine our natural surrounding world. Through our observations, we also use the skills of reasoning and logic, to make inferences to determine at least possible, if not probable, explanations to help guide further explorations. Just like an investigation, in the area of criminal justice we can never fully solve a crime mystery with absolute certainty. However, our evidence should lead us to preponderance of the evidence, if not beyond a reasonable doubt. |
