On Line Science Journal The use of the website based science journal had a strong and positive impact on my teaching strategies and learning. However, just like simple machines, with every gain there were some losses. First and (probably) foremost my students enjoyed fallowing the science journal. They enjoyed the videos and from a comical perspective hearing “teachers” discuss their observations of an elementary level science project. Hearing our confusion help supply the courage for some of the students to not be afraid to express their ideas. In addition, it gave students a reference that they can use while creating their web based science journal. Second, the website journal provided a more useful and permanent reference source. The ability to use and embed video allowed for the opportunities for a discursive approach when making observations. Thirdly, if I found that I made a mistake with formatting or wanted to go add something to a page, it was a simple adjustment. I did not have to worry about erasing or scratching something out and or messing up the order and flow of the journal. However, there were defiantly some negative aspects. While I tried to keep up and create most of the sites content during class, as you would a paper journal it often became too cumbersome to manage, while focusing on the lesson. |
